Business in Oakville Duran Place for Kids provides the best family fun Duran Place for Kids opened its doors nearly two years ago at 83 Reynolds Street. Since then, the family-owned, and operated play centre is a six-time Oakville Beaver Read- ers' Choice winner. This year, the team won Diamond for Best Business that Gives to the Community, Children's En- tertainment, Family Activities, New Business, Recreation Fa- cility and Yoga Centre. "We couldn't be more thrilled about our wins this year," says co-owner and founder Tina De Crisci. Tina and her hus- band, Claudio Duran, decided to pursue their passion for providing a valuable start for children. Tina has more than 20 years of experience as a grade-school teacher. She and Claudio have five children and are foster parents, making a total of six children under their care. Duran Place for Kids offers a wide selection of services and classes. This includes hosting birthdays, tutoring ses- sions, ballet classes, painting classes and much more. The beautiful space on Reynolds Street is also an excellent spot for holiday parties, private dinners and work meetings. Due to COVID-19, many of its regular operations are on hold, but the Duran family is doing its best to bring families joy and entertainment. "We're doing great in terms of adapting to COVID-19, gain- ing new followers every day, and getting positive feedback from the community, but revenue-wise, things have scaled back," De Crisci explains. It's no secret local businesses have had a challenging year, and it's no different for Duran Place for Kids. "The issue as to why the ends aren't meeting is that our numbers are so small," says De Crisci. "A ballet class that occupies 15 is now down to five. I have to use tape to create designated spots to respect social distancing in classes." Smaller classes and events mean less revenue, but it's not all bad news, De Crisci says parents are very appreciative of the effort they go through to keep their kids safe. In addition to winning several awards, the team is also grateful for all the parents thanking them for providing a solution for their children. The team recently hosted an out- door Halloween event with a massive turnout of 400 kids trickling in and out between 9 a.m. and 7p.m. There was also a baby's first Halloween craft session. For Christmas, the team is working hard to bring physi- cally distanced fun to the community. The holiday tradition of a photo with Santa is being accommodated with private sessions that can be booked from Dec. 3 to 22. There will also be an opportunity on Sunday, Dec. 6 for your pet to meet Santa too. A portion of proceeds will go to the Oakville Humane Society. Duran Place for Kids is known around town as the par- ent alternative during these unprecedented times. "I'm the proudest of how organically we've grown," says De Crisci. "Our followers are very supportive and always waiting to see what we're going to do next." For more information about Duran Place for Kids, visit duranplaceforkids.com or call 905-842-2223.
