A developer, 3064 Trafalgar Road Holdings Inc., is calling for zoning changes to permit the construction of two 30-storey res- idential buildings. The matter was recently dis- cussed at a meeting of Oakville's planning and development coun- cil. The structure would feature 678 apartment units, 739 parking spaces and four levels of under- ground parking. The 0.82-hectare property is located 200 metres north of Dun- das Street and fronts onto the west side of Trafalgar Road. It is surrounded to the north, east and west by subdivisions that are under construction. Some of these subdivisions are also proposing high-rise and mid-rise apartment buildings There are also portions of the Natural Heritage System/East Morrison Creek to the west of the site. To the south, there are two single detached dwellings that are listed on the Town of Oakville Heritage Register. In a report to council, Town senior planner Tricia Colling- wood noted the subject lands are intended to accommodate inten- sification and high-density de- velopment. She said building heights of 20 storeys are permitted on the site; however, the land is eligible for bonusing, which means the Town may permit the requested height of 30 storeys in exchange for the developer either payingfor the developer either payingf the Town for the privilege or ben- efiting the community in some other way.
