Brissett (Pastor) Email: mjbrisse@yahoo.ca Jesus is lOrD A memorial foundation has been established by the parents of Zara Buren, the young Oakville teenager who lost her life this past September while trying to save her horse. Sabrina Haque and Rob- ert Buren, created the Zara Buren Memorial Founda- tion to establish a legacy in loving memory of their youngest daughter through the Oakville Com- munity Foundation. "It is hard, and in some moments impossible, to understand that our dar- ling Zara is gone. She was our bright light, good and kind to her core, and ded- icated to her family and her animals. She was ex- ceptional, steadfast and so very brave. Honouring her memory by doing good for others would have made her so happy," said her par- ents in a joint statement. While riding along a trail with her mother Sept. 21, Zara's horse got stuck in a marshy bog, and the 14- year-old died trying to save her beloved animal. Zara is remembered for her kindness, drive for ex- cellence, passionate love of animals and dedication to her horse and the sport of eventing. The outpouring of sup- port and care for her loss was felt throughout Oak- ville and beyond, and peo- ple wanted a meaningful way to pay tribute to Zara, according to a press re- lease issued by OCF. The Burens started a GoFundMe campaign with the intention of creating a Foundation, and along with private donations to the Oakville and Milton Humane Society and other shelters, support has been "resounding." The creation of the Zara Buren Memori- al Foundation was made possible by the generosity of many. The Zara Buren Memo- rial Foundation will focus on helping youth with the desire, talent and work ethic to pursue their pas- sion. The Memorial Foun- dation will support the Za- ra Buren Memorial Award to be given annually through the Ontario Eventing Association, to a junior rider who exhibits a passion for eventing, sportsmanship and a com- mitment to their horse. Za- ra was a talented rider with an intense dedication to training and learning, always putting her horse first. Zara's family said they are grateful for the gener- osity of so many who made donations both big and small to help establish an enduring legacy in their daughter's memory. 'SHE WAS OUR BRIGHT LIGHT' The Zara Buren Memorial Foundation will help youth with the desire, talent and work ethic to pursue their passion.
