The 'Oakville Cabinet' - a new hand crafted oak cabinet to house the Oakville Historical Collection was unveiled at the Oakville Central Library last Friday. The cabinet, built by Gordon Galbraith of the 1846 Log House Craft Gallery in Campbellville, was made possible through a $3,000 donation to the library by the 300-member Oakville University Women's Club last year. Shown from left, looking at an old registry, are Linda Williams, past-president of the Oakville University Women's Club during its 40th anniversary year, its current president Pat Hutchison, Mari O'Sullivan, who was in charge of the fundraising, and chief librarian Eleanor James. The cabinet features a 'dentil' molding reminiscent of the Carnegie libraries built across Canada and the United State by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, 1835-1919, who is also known for the building of Carnegie Hall in New York City.
