The HDSB's Reopening Schools Plan was "revised" in light of the govern- ment announcement on Aug. 13. Elementary school students now have an opportunity to change their delivery model (from in-person to distance learning or vice versa) on November 30 and in mid-Febru- ary, which is the end of the first term. Ele- mentary students selecting the "full dis- tance" option will be part of an Elementary Virtual School. Students from a variety of schools will form the classes and will be sup- ported accordingly (e.g., educator, special education resource staff, office staff, admin- istrator, etc.), the HDSB said in an email to parents Aug. 20. The Distance Learning model will in- clude the daily minimum synchronous learning time requirements as set by the Ministry of Education in the newly released Remote Learning Policy Program and Mem- orandum 164. Outdoor learning, designated "isolation rooms" and disabling the use of water- drinking fountains are some of the plans and procedures the Halton District School Board is putting in to place in its reopening plan. For HDSB secondary school students: • The Adaptive model for secondary will change to a "Quadmester" where students will take two courses for 10 weeks • Opportunities to change delivery model (from in-person to distance learning or vice versa) will be November 12 or February 5 Secondary students selecting the "full distance" option will also be part of a Sec- ondary Virtual School. Students from a va- riety of schools will form the classes and will be supported accordingly (e.g., teacher, spe- cial education resource staff, office staff, administrator, etc.), the HDSB update states.
