The agency is set to re- ceive up to $275,000 as part of the Canada Nature Fund for Aquatic Species at Risk initiative. Approximately $4.8 million has been ear- marked to fund five pro- jects across the province. In Halton, the project fo- cuses on aquatic SAR re- search and habitat en- hancements, including performing outreach and engaging with landowners who own properties in Bronte Creek, Fourteen Mile Creek and Sixteen Mile Creek. In a news release, Mil- ton MP Adam van Koever- den said the funding "reaf- firms this government's commitment to preserving and protecting Canada's rich biodiversity, and I'm so proud that we continue to prioritize the conserva- tion of this country's natu- ral beauty. "Halton is home to a number of aquatic species at risk, and this funding will help support the vital work that the Conservation Hal- ton Foundation does to pre- serve and rebuild their frag- ile ecosystems -- ensuring that my friends and neigh- bours in the community can enjoy and learn about these species for years to come," he said. Hassaan Basit, presi- dent and CEO of Conserva- tion Halton, said that the funding "has positively im- pacted aquatic species at risk through the water- shed, allowing us to im- prove their habitats, while also allowing us to contin- ue our important work of improving water quality and flood storage for our communities."
