Local citizens who are 50 or older can now book their COVID-19 boosters through Halton Public Health's online booking system. According to the Re- gion, third doses can be re- ceived six months (or 168 days) after a second dose. To help residents deter- mine when they're eligible for a booster, Halton has launched an online third dose calculator (https:// bit.ly/33cEHW9). Walk-ins for first and second doses for residents 12 and up are also available at Halton's community clinics. These visits will be accepted on clinic days that are scheduled for 12+ vacci- nations. Children aged five to 11 and those seeking boosters are required to schedule an appointment. "We have had great suc- cess with our vaccination program so far, and 87 per cent of our residents are fully vaccinated," said Re- gional Chair Gary Carr. "Thank you to everyone who has rolled up their sleeves or helped someone get to their appointment. We have a team of friendly and highly-skilled staff and clinics in all four mu- nicipalities ready to pro- vide more third doses. There are also other ways to get the vaccine in our community, including many pharmacies, GO- VAXX bus stops and partic- ipating primary care pro- viders." With the emergence of the Omicron variant in the community, Halton Medi- cal Officer of Health Dr. Hamidah Meghani is urg- ing residents to "be vigilant and get fully vaccinated to gain strong protection." "If you are eligible for a third dose, I encourage you to get it as soon as possible to gain an extra layer of protection," she said. Halton's online booking system can be accessed at https://one.halton.ca/ vab/s/. For a list of participat- ing pharmacies, visit co- vid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine- locations.
