More Omicron variant cases of CO- VID-19 have been identified in Halton. According to Halton Region Public Health, there are five confirmed cases of the Omicron variant across the region as of Dec. 8, as well as one probable case and eight people under investigation "due to an initial screen positive for the variant." This was up from the previous week, where only one confirmed case and two probable cases of the new variant had been identified. "We are urging all residents to get their two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, follow all public health measures and consider lim- iting the size of social circles, especially as we experience colder weather and moving indoors," Halton health officials said in an email. "Please also get tested if you are ex- periencing symptoms of COVID-19." As for the weekly COVID-19 cases, the region's website shows that from Dec. 3 to 9 there were 308 new cases, up from 243 the previous week. Another Burlington resi- dent has died from the disease, bringing the city's total to 71. As of Dec. 10, the number of active CO- VID-19 cases stood at 297 -- with 88 cases in Milton, 87 in Oakville, 66 in Burlington and 56 in Halton Hills.
