Through your participation in our waste diversion programs, we have extended the life of our landfill by more than 30 years--but there is still more we can do! Our proposed Solid Waste Management Strategy includes medium (four to 10 years) and long-term (11+ years) initiatives that will help the Region increase our waste diversion rate, further extend the life of the Halton Waste Management Site (landfill) and reduce carbon emissions. Public consultations are now underway and we want to hear from you! Visit halton.ca/waste to: read the proposed Strategy; complete our short online survey by December 10; and participate in a virtual Public Information Centre from 6 to 8 p.m. on November 23, 24 or 30. Your input is valuable to us--thank you for your participation! We all have a role in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Gary Carr, Regional Chair Honouring our nation's heroes this Remembrance Day On Remembrance Day, we honour our nation's veterans for the sacrifices they made while bravely protecting our rights and freedoms. Canadian soldiers have helped protect civilians around the world and ensured freedom and security for citizens at home. We remember these soldiers and all those who gave their lives in the World Wars, Korean War and War in Afghanistan, as well as in ongoing peacekeeping missions and exercises. We also recognize current members of the Canadian Armed Forces who continue to bring aid to areas in conflict, in addition to providing support during times of crisis at home, including essential supports during the COVID-19 pandemic. I encourage you to wear your poppy with pride to honour the bravery of the Canadian Armed Forces, both past and present. Stay connected on Regional improvements As our community grows, the Region continues to invest in infrastructure and build complete communities that maintain our high quality of life. We are widening roads to improve traffic flow, building new watermains to provide high-quality drinking water to homes, and improving our wastewater treatment facilities to protect the natural environment. Through these projects and so many others, we are building a better Halton every day. Stay informed and plan ahead for construction happening in your community: By ensuring residents have access to reliable infrastructure, we can keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
