Christmas is fast approach- ing, and so too is the chance to bring a little joy to a child in need. Samaritan's Purse Interna- tional Relief is once again accept- ing shoebox donations for its an- nual Operation Christmas Child campaign, which supports youth living amidst poverty, disease, war and natural disaster. Halton residents are urged to join with those across the coun- try in filling a shoebox -- or simi- lar container -- with toys, school supplies, hygiene products and other items to be delivered to chil- dren around the world. Personal notes and photos can be included in the boxes, while those making a donation are asked to include a $10-per-box fee to cover shipping and other pro- gram costs. Since 1993, Operation Christ- mas Child has collected and dis- tributed more than 187 million shoebox gifts in over 100 coun- tries. "We know what the pandemic has done to our country; now consider children around the world," said Randy Crosson, di- rector of Operation Christmas Child. "Simply gifts can change lives forever."
