DIAMOND WINNER 2021 Visit DChalton.ca for details Call us any Time - We are #heretohear Since the beginning of the pandemic, Distress Centre Halton has handled nearly 40,000 calls from people in our community who were in need of a compassionate ear. Now, almost two years later, half of all Canadians are considered 'high-risk' for mental health issues. The need for mental health support is overwhelming, and the ability to access immediate help is more crucial than ever before. You have told us just how important this mental health crisis is to you through the amazing support you have shown us these past 20 months. Through the pandemic, we have trained a record number of new volunteers and received unprecedented support from individual donors and compassionate organizations in our community. Thanks to your help, our volunteers are always there to provide free, 24/7 support to people of any age at any time who are struggling with emotional stress, isolation, or crisis - including suicide ideation. We also offer a TeleCheck service, where our volunteers make prearranged calls to clients who need someone to check in on them - thanks to the support of the community, we are proud to say there is no wait list for this service. All calls are anonymous and confidential, and all calls are answered by a volunteer who has gone through extensive training. For them, no issue is too big or too small. Distress Centre Halton has been in the community for over 47 years, reigniting the hope to cope as a part of the continuum of mental health support. Through the pandemic, we took both our outbound program TeleCheck and our distress and crisis lines remote - so volunteers could safely work from home. As a result, we increased capacity and our ability to reach to even more of our community. With the generous support of our community, Distress Centre Halton works to improve the health and wellness of people in our community and the quality of life of those who are feeling alone, isolated, and vulnerable. It is through the kindness of donors and the tireless efforts of our amazing volunteers that we are able to keep our lines open for all callers in need. We can not thank you enough for your heartfelt contributions to our cause - we could not do this without you. It's at this time of year with the tradition of giving gifts during the Christmas and holiday season that there's a stronger focus on the needs of others and our ability to give. Giving Tuesday on November 30, falls during the week after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cybre Monday. The annual day that promotes giving to charities contrasts the spending on gifts that launches the holiday shopping season. Many charities can be supported by purchasing their products or by donating to purchase items that support needy individuals. Donations can be made in someone's name and presented to them as a gift or this day of giving could be a chance to support a favourite charity or find a group that rep- resents your interests and give it a financial boost. The Giving Tuesday website features hun- dreds of charities across the country. Search for your city and explore your charitable giv- ing options. Groups addressing environ- mental issues, support- ing the needy, mentally ill and intellectually challenged and contributing to local culture are among the selection. Charities and potential supporters can also ben- efit from resources presented at givingtuesday.ca. CanadaHelps lives up to its tagline "giving made simple" by inspiring and connecting donors with charities.
