The attorney re- presenting Nancy Guzzo -- who did not make an ap- pearance in court -- told the court that a resolution meeting has been sched- uled for Nov. 29. The matter will return to court on Dec. 21. Guzzo was charged by Hamilton police on Jan. 21, 2021, with 10 counts of fraud under $5,000 and two counts of fraud over $5,000, related to her employment with the Laborers' Interna- tional Union of North America (LIUNA), specifi- cally in her position as as- sistant business manager for LIUNA Local 3000. She was assistant busi- ness manager for LIUNA Local 3000 between March 2018 and April 2019 and pri- or to that, business manag- er and secretary-treasurer for Local 1110, according to LinkedIn. In a previous statement, Guzzo said she could not share details that would help provide context since the matter is before the courts. "What I can disclose, is that I was a 20-year employ- ee of LIUNA until March of 2019, at which time I was dismissed without cause. I cannot comment further, but I look forward to being able to share my side of this situation as this legal pro- cess plays out. "It has been an excep- tionally trying period of time, and I would like to thank the members of our community who have reached out to me. The kindness and support I have been shown have giv- en me strength," she said back in October. The Oakville trustee said she would remain committed to upholding her duties as trustee for the Halton Catholic District School Board. - With files from Kathy Yanchus COURT HEARS CASE OF CATHOLIC TRUSTEE CHARGED WITH FRAUD HCDSB trustee Nancy Guzzo is charged with 12 counts of fraud.
