The Halton Region pro- ject that was years in the making encompassed the stretch between Leighland Avenue to north of Hays Boulevard, with changes including: • A wider road -- now six lanes -- and new traffic sig- nals to improve commute times. • New sidewalks, off- road bike lanes, bus stops and shelters. • Upgraded water mains and new stormwater man- agement infrastructure. • Equipment for a new regional advanced traffic management system to re- spond to real-time traffic demands. • New street lighting, sound walls and landscap- ing. • A new pedestrian bridge and bike path. "As more people and businesses choose to call Halton home, this project was essential to keep traf- fic moving and our road us- ers safe," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "Thank you to our community for your patience during con- struction, and to our public works team for completing this project on time and for your tremendous work to limit disruptions to resi- dents and motorists." Carr also extended his gratitude to the federal government for the $6.9 million in funding it pro- vided for the project through the Canada Com- munity Building Fund (for- merly the Gas Tax Fund). Oakville MP Anita Anand said the initiative provides flexible funding so that municipalities can prioritize projects based on the needs of their commu- nities. "It is wonderful to see the completion of the Tra- falgar Road construction project," she said. "Invest- ing in local infrastructure ensures that future genera- tions have reliable infra- structure to meet their needs for years to come." In 2023, Halton will be- gin further improvements on Trafalgar Road between Hays Boulevard and Wil- liam Halton Parkway. More details will be provid- ed to the community in the coming months.
