Here are a few ways that you can make a difference this Earth Day and every day: Reduce your waste by making small personal changes such as opting for reusable alternatives, repurposing household items or looking for plastic-free materials. Make your commute more eco-friendly by walking or cycling to nearby stores, parks and amenities, carpooling with a friend or using public transit. Conserve water by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, checking faucets and toilets for leaks or using low-flow showerheads. Shop for fresh food using our Simply Local map and avoid processed food items packaged in single-use plastics. Get involved in local Earth Week events or look for a community cleanup happening in your local municipality. Thank you for your commitment to reducing our community's ecological footprint! Spring waste tips and programs In the coming weeks, our seasonal programs are resuming to provide you with more ways to help sort and properly dispose of household waste: • Yard waste collection will resume the week of April 4 and will be collected every other week on the same day as garbage. As a reminder, grass clippings, sod and dirt do not go in your yard waste and can be dropped off at the Halton Waste Management Site. • Compost giveaway events will take place in the spring and fall at the Halton Waste Management site where you can pick up high-quality compost for your garden. We are building a better Halton every day As more people and businesses call Halton home, we are building new connections and improving our road networks to provide motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users with safe and efficient travel options. Important programs that maintain resilient wastewater infrastructure continue to prevent flooding, and ongoing state of good repair and installation of watermains ensure we continue to provide reliable access to high-quality drinking water.
