With heavy hearts we had to say goodbye recent- ly to Ken Moodie, an ex- tremely special person who made an impact on so many hockey players' lives. Ken was my hockey coach when I played for the Oakville Blades during the 1987 to 1991 seasons. When I was 15, he took a chance on me, like did for many oth- ers. He had a fire, passion and intensity like no other coach. Over my four years with Ken, our team made an impact each year, and in my fourth year -- as cap- tain -- we went to the fi- nals, playing for the Suth- erland Cup. It was an amaz- ing run. He touched many hearts as he made every attempt to further each player he coached. In his tenure with Blades, he taught us to strive for more in life by in- troducing us to opportuni- ties to get a collegiate edu- cation. I'm not sure how many young men he guided to scholarships, but in my fourth year of junior at least half the team contin- ued their hockey careers while achieving an educa- tion. In February 2020, I was honoured by the Blades as they retired the No. 16, which I donned playing un- der Ken. It was a humbling, unbelievable experience only possible because of Ken. Ken, may you rest in peace knowing you made an incredible impact on my life by helping me get my education, allowing me to give back to the medical community. I will strive to continue his legacy and pass on the importance of education. May Ken's family con- tinue to be blessed and loved in his memory. It is with this that I want to say thank you.
