Vegetation on railway right-of-way, if left uncontrolled, can contribute to trackside fires and impair proper inspection of track infrastructure. The spray program is not being done for aesthetic reasons. For safe railway operations, CN will conduct its annual spray program on its rail lines in the province of Ontario. A certified professional will be applying herbicides on and around the railway tracks (primarily along the 16 - 24 feet graveled area/ballast). All product requirements for setbacks in the vicinity of dwellings, aquatic environments and municipal water supplies will be met. CN may use the following herbicides and active ingredients: VP480 (Dow), Esplanade (Bayer), Detail (BASF), Arsenal Powerline (BASF), Navius Flex (Bayer), Gateway (Corteva), Hasten NT (Norac), VisionMax (Bayer) using Glyphosate (480g/L or 540g/L), Indaziflam (200 g/L), Saflufenacil (29.74%), Imazapyr isopropylamine (26.7%), Metsulfuron-methyl (12.6%), Aminocyclopyrachlor (39.5%), Paraffinic Oil (586 g/L), Alkoxylated alcohol non-ionic surfactants (242 g/L), Methyl and Ethyl oleate (esterified vegetable oil) 75.20% CN only uses herbicides that have been approved for use in Canada and in the Province within which they are applied. The program is expected to take place from May to October 2022. Visit www.cn.ca/vegetation to see the list of cities as well as the updated schedule. Residents and provin- cial officials whose efforts resulted in the preserva- tion of Glen Abbey Golf Course have been formally recognized. Mayor Rob Burton pre- sented Key to the Town Award plaques to Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Minis- ter of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark, Oakville MPPs Stephen Crawford and Effie Trian- tafilopoulos, and the Oak- ville residents who led the successful Save Glen Ab- bey campaign. Burton noted Oakville residents associations joined forces with the We Love Oakville group and with the Save Glen Abbey residents group, resulting in thousands of Oakville residents writing letters to the premier and the minis- ter. Crawford and Triantafi- lopoulos also took the con- cerns about potential devel- opment of Glen Abbey Golf Course to Queen's Park. On July 9, 2021, Clark announced he had reached out to Glen Abbey Golf Club owner ClubLink and secured a commitment from its officials to with- draw plans for the golf club's development. ClubLink had applied for a zoning change that would allow it to build 3,222 residential units at the 1333 Dorval Dr. site, including nine apartment buildings between nine and 12 sto- reys. The company also want- ed to build 121,000 square feet of new office and retail space at the site. Town staff argued that amount of development was not permitted, or ap- propriate, for the site and would amount to an un- planned growth area. Oakville council voted unanimously to reject Clu- bLink's development appli- cation for Glen Abbey Golf Course on Sept. 27, 2018 and its demolition application on Feb. 12, 2018. ClubLink had appealed these decisions to the Onta- rio Land Tribunal, formal- ly known as the Local Plan- ning Appeal Tribunal. A virtual hearing on this matter was scheduled to begin Aug. 9, 2021 and would have lasted for ap- proximately 19 weeks. During the Key to the Town award ceremony, Burton thanked the pre- mier, minister and local MPPs for listening to the people.
