Meet Paced by the sensational per- formance of John Ross, who shattered his own marks of last year to establish new C.0.S.S.A. records in the 880 and 440 yard dashes, Oakville-Trafalgar high school students ran up a total of 36 points to finish fifth in the district meet at Fort Erie Satur- day. Definitely a promising perform- er where middle-distance events are concerned. Ross electrified the Crystal Beach fans as he raced to a 55.1 seconds record in the quarter-mile. Far from weary, he stepped off the half mile dis- tance in two minutes, 6 seconds. Pete Sutton, another Oakville stalwart, claimed second place in the 440, and chalked up thirds in the 220 and the running broad Jump. Other Oakville winners were: Laurie Smith, who captured the senior mile, and Albert Lapier, who won a heat in the junior 220 sprint. Complete Oakville - Trafalgar results were as follows: Junior Gord Ribble--3rd, hop, step and jump; 2nd , high jump. Albert Lapier--Ist in 20 heat; 4th in final. Jack Lee Tops Golfers In Hidden-Hole Match Several golf fans from Oakville journeyed to Credit Valley Golf club on Friday evening to enter the hidden-hole tourney staged by the club. Jack Lee was in fine form for this time of year and finished with a 42 for the 9 holes, George Richardson was runner-up with 43. Other entrants were John Chapman, Bert Chapman, Clare Laing, Ken Richardson, Howard Lee, Don McGillivray and Vince Barrey. Taxis Too Much For B.-A. Softballers For the first five innings it was nip-and-tuck with the score 1-1, then a barrage of hits, combined with errors, opened up the league softball tilt at Busby Park on Tuesday evening, when Oakville Taxi defeated B.A. 15-3. Now that the weather is more suitable for sitting out in the evening, larger crowds are ex- pected at these league games every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The league is sponsored by the Oakville Sports Associa- tion and the teams this year are more closely matched, which will give the fans a better exhibition of softball. Carberry, supervisor of athletics at Oakville-Trafalgar high school, expects to take a six-man team to the Protestant secondary schools meet at Mont- real next week-end. Fine show- ing of local track stars in the C. 0.S.S.A, meet at Fort Erie last week has been most encouraging to the Oakville staff. Present selections for the Montreal trip include John Ross, double rec- ord smasher; Pete Sutton and Laurie Smith, while three other Busby Park Softball League Standings LEADING SIX HITTERS Player AB.
