Its suc- cess is due, in a large part, to the able leadership of Frank Locks- ley, who spends considerable time and energy training new mem- bers. Mr. Locksley deserves credit for the way he held the band to- gether during the war years. Our town lost a great bands- man with the passing of the late mayor, Alfred Whitaker. "Alf," as he was known to his fellow bandsmen, always showed a keen interest in this work, and was secretary - treasurer until his death. His position as secretary- treasurer was taken over by "Bill" McWatters, who has been with the band for 30 years. Not to be forgotten is Alfred Burrell, who_has_ been chairman for a number of years. Mr. Bur- rell has also been interested in encouraging the younger men. A member of this organization for 25 years although he is. 67 years of age, he still plays with the band, There are 28 members at the present time and an effort is be- ing made at increasing this num- ber. New instruments are badly needed and it is hoped that it will be possible to obtain them in the not too distant future. The citizens of Oakville should encourage their band and assist in any way they see fit. They are a credit to our community. ~ TOWNSHIP THE REEVE REPORTS St. Jude's: Sunday: school picnic is to be held on Saturday, June! 26th, at La Salle Park. Cars will leave the Parish Hall at 2 pm. y TRUCK By C R. C. A. Cu Having received the approval of the Department of Planning and Development, the Oakville- Trafalgar 'planning board is now a reality. It is my sincere opinion that its function will pay real dividends in the future development of our community. Unlike certain other municipalities, who now find the rapid expansion of industry and home building has caught them unprepared, it is not too late for this area to plan for the future, and its success will depend wholly on the tolerance, vision and un- derstanding of the ratepayers vo JAMES R.
