Hillmer I am glad to say that the pro- vincial government has appointed an engineer to survey the erosion problems all around Lake On- tario. He will start down at the east end of the lake and work up the shore. When he comes to Oakville and district he will con- sult with us. Following his sur- vey he will make a report and I am hopeful that some action will be taken by the government, I am a member of the execu- tive of the Shore Protective as- sociation, and we are working to see if we can't get the Domin- ion i in the TOWNSHIP THE RTSEVE REPORTS By W. H. Biggar I feel that all residents and contractors the township should: know that we are check- ing very closely now on buildings being erected. Our new constable is making the rounds and will re- in fuse permits where the structures do not meet with our building by- laws. Also, if he finds any build- ings being constructed without a permit he will take the necessary action. The building by-law is for the of all residents, both & question also, For instance, all the engineers who attended the meetings in Toronto last winter agreed that the pumping of sand from the Niagara River had a great deal to do with the erosion along our shores. The Domihion government sells the sand to con- tractors, but I believe the money they receive is far outweighed by. the cost of the damage done. It is our hope that we will have success, and recently the matter was raised in the house by a member. Along the shore at Beamsville they have been experimenting with groins into the lake. These have built up nice sand beaches, but it remains to be seen if the engineer feels that the same thing will work here. to protect property values and to prevent anyone putting up a building which would be a fire trap. I would ask that all resi- dents contemplating any building to contact the township office to obtain the necessary permit--and to check that they are complying with the regulations. The matter of the residents north of the base line wanting to use Milton high school instead of Oakville is one that will call far a great deal of thought and which we must consult the department about. Until such time as we have discussed it with the board and the department there is noth- ing definite we can say, but as soon as we have anything positive I shall let you know.
