Charles Clay Do you know Eisle Hume of R. R. 5, Milton, Ontario? Well, you should, Elsie Hume is the kind of nei- ghbor of which any community can be proud. In fact, there is an Elsie Hume in every community. The Elsie Hume's all her own idea. Nobody asked her to do it. But the important thing is she did it. Elsie Hume of R.R. 5, Milton, Ontario, received a letter from our executlve director, Horace Brown, as did tens of thousands of her fellow-Canadians. It was a letter asking for help to organ- ize the Canadian March of Dimes. Thousands of Canadians res- ponded to this appeal generously, so much so that the Canadian Foundation of Poliomyelitis (The 'Canadian March of Dimes), of which I have the honor to be the first president, is now a reality. But it remained for Elsie Hume to write out by hand ten copies The other day, the Canadian March of Dimes received a let- ter from Elsie Hume, with which was enclosed a cheque for fifty money order today to; The, Can-| If Elsle Hume qo adian March of Dimes, 410 Bloor [ten letters by hang Street Bast, Toronto 5? : an copy : you ¢ ly write out one cheque dollars. Mrs. Hume for not having sent the money sooner, but it had taken so long to copy out all those letters by hand! Would the Canadian March of Dimes please send her some typewritten copies, so she could try to get more money? The Canadian March of Dimes would and could. About two weeks later came another letter to the Canadian March of Dimes from Elsie Hume. It contained a further cheque for $83.60. This was a donation Mrs. Hume had collected from the Omagh Women's Institute, the Nassagaweya Institue, and the Limehouse Women's Institute. jAltogether, - Mrs. Hume has sent the Canadian March of Dimes $133.60. And apparently started. I wanted you to know about Elsie Hume, because I think she is the kind of neighbor everyone should have. I also thought her story might give you some ideas. Ideas like starting off the New Tear right by giving your con tribution and help to the Can- adian March of Dimes, 410 Bloor Street East, Toronto. All during January and after- wards, the Canadian March of Dimes is appealing for money to carry on its great work of help- ing those who cannot help them- selves. Perhaps you cannot do as much as Elsie Hume, but whatever you can do will be gratefully ap- preciated and received.
