A pram is a small boat about eight feet long, centre board, and carrying thirty-six feet of canvas. It comfortably holds one person, two can sail in it if they don't mind curling up like pretzels, but not when sail- ing. The sabot-prams are defin- itely meant for The Squadron has had a lot of fun and a lot of good racing in their small boats. racing. Several of the women members are quite good sailors in their own right. Unless a family were fortunate enough to own two prams, (I mean the boats, not the buggies) friend wife just watch- ed the fun from the shore. In or- der that more of the women could take a more active part in sailing, it was suggested that the club consider a bigger class sailing craft, preferably a type of boat that could accommodate some of the small fry as well Commodore Doug Armour spent a busy fall writing all across the country to various boat builders about all kinds of sailing boats that might suit the purpose of the Oakville Yacht Squadron. "Even when visiting in Nova Scotia, he took the oppor- tunity to visit some of the boat building yards to inspect their wares. When he had finally assembled all his information, a meeting was called last week at Mr. Jim Roberts of Dundas St. N. Two 'main problems had to be ironed out: (1) the price, (2) whether the boats were suitable for these waters. As you know, Lake Ontario is very cold and its currents are very treacherous. After a great deal of discuss- ion it was decided that the "Snipe" sailboat was best suited to the pocketbooks and waters of SAILING SNIPES... AHOY I! BY BETTINA MASSON the Oakville Yacht Squadron. Incidentally, the sails on these particular Snipes will be what been with expected An interesting known as Rotsey English sail Rotsey's is an English firm of makers who have been in business steadily 1710 Although the squadron is now since branching out into larger sail- boats, the prams are still very much part of the club. Any Snipe owners who are selling their prams, are doing so right here in Oakville. Many senior mem- bers and all junior members will be sailing them this year again. So look for fun, excitement and good racing on the waterfront this season when the Oakville Yacht Squadron sail out in all their glory of the new fleet. And e a sta- if some day in May, you s concerted rush to the C.N.R. tion by the members of O.Y not be alarmed. It's still a long winter ahead before fairways begin to green up again, figure Jack and Jim, and they aren't for getting a layoff layer of rust on their games. ed for Inst Bruising Brampton Crew Overpowers Bud's Kids Completely and Brampton outclassing their younger lighter opposition, Regents claimed a Bud Junior "C" roaring 9-1 victory Oakville bru Brampton's new over. In fact, Peer is finally pulling his uniform out of the moth balls, and will take his regular turn with the Lalkies in future tilts-- probably on nce, where the locals can stand considerable de bolstering. Milton made it four straight over this town's representatives with a 6-8 win, showing superior checking and a definite oppor- tunist tendency around the nets.
