So far, 361 blocks have been accounted for. <= Terry Budreo is in second place, with Allan Maccabe, Ray. Manbert Jr, and "Butch" Ban- field following in that order. Remember, boys and girls, we need 1586 blocks to build the shelter, as well as several hun- dred bricks, cement and other materials. All members are reminded that the next meeting will be held on Saturday morning, April 8, at 10 o'clock in Lusk Hall. Ask your mother to make sure to remind you again. Has any other member a scrap book to turn in? This is the last chance, so bring it to the Jour- nal office with your name and age on it. If you want another booklet of cement blocks to sell, come to the Journal office after four and before five on any school day. Remember, you have to sell at least one block to be -en- titled to go to the movie, "The Biscuit Hater," at the Gregory one day soon. IT'S SPRING With spring here officially, the last vestiges of the winter's snow disappearing and balmy zephyrs replacing the biting March winds, the great annual campaign of digging, planting, raking, paint- ing and general cleaning-up is about to start. Amateur garden- ers are poring over lacish illus- Back in the country farmers are looking over their implements and gettting ready to start on the land as soon as it gets dry enough. "I think the season is a bit later this year, due to the heavy snow," said William Fox, Oakville representative of the Ontario Department of Agricul- ture. "About this time last year we were out looking for insects on pear trees. We haven't been out this year. The frost isn't 'out of the ground yet. We will need ten days of really good drying wea- ther, with sun and wind, before a start can be made on the land, even on the lightest soil. On the heaviest soil it will be even long- er. There is quite a bit of frost in the ground this year." "As regards fruit crops,' said Mr, Fox, "everything looks rea- sonably good. There has been some injury to buds on peaches, Japanese plums and to some ex- tent European plums and sweet cherries, due to the very mild weather early in the winter and the severe frosts that followed, but the damage will probably not affect the ultimate crop to any great extent. x GET YOUR POUND TINS PASTE use with cleaner 75B Colborne St. E.
