In the Major loop, the gallop- ing Schmoos have, of course, cinched the second series and are favoured to roll away the top honors. Anything can happen in the five-game total-pins playoff competition, however, and it should be a hot night next Tues- day. Need Birth Certificates When Registering For Minor Ball Leagues As minor peewess, peewees and bantams besiege his place of business to sign up for the fast approaching minor baseball sea- son, Bud Corbett continues to stress the necessity for filing birth certificates with the regis- trations. In many cases, how- ever, Bud finds it difficult to convince these youthful diamond stars of tomorrow as to the im- portance of the certificates. As a result, a lot of youngsters are turning up to register armed with statements of age signed by their parents. "Birth certificates are neces- sary because the Ontario Base- ball assn. like the OHLA., requir- es that they be filed when our teams progress to playoff com- petition," he explained this week. "As our youngsters move up, in baseball and hockey, to bantam, midget and juvenile classifica tion, we can't use players who haven't produced birth certifi- cates. Should a player fail to qualify in this way, it would be a great disappointment to him and would weaken the team to have him disqualified just at trophy hunting time. So we have to insist that certificates are fil- ed in the beginning, so that we may plan our teams in advance." Birth certificates, which may $1, will be useful later on for many purposes other than ath- Ietics, Bud points out. "We are not questioning parental state- ments of age," he declared. "It's just that we have to conform with existing Ontario rulings, due to our affiliations with the pro- be obtained at Queen's Park for | vincial bodies." 2% 0.B.
