Black this week received the following letter from Jack Brummell, former Oak- villian now residing in Winnipeg which will, we feel, be of more than passing interest to residents who rallied so strongly to the support of the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund. + Winnipeg, June 2, 1950 His Worship, Mayor James Black, Oakville, Ont, Dear Jim: Being somewhat familiar with the results of your Blitz Cam- paign for the ald of the Manito ba Flood Relief Fund, I am cer tainly proud to have hailed from Oakville. As one familiar with the way Oakville responds to campaigns of this nature, I was not too sur- prised at the splendid results recorded. We Brummells were extremely lucky--not even one drop of water in our basement--but all of Winnipeg was affected in one Way or another as you can well imagine. I don't believe press or radio overplayed the tragic con- ditions that we witnessed at firsthand, and 1 can assure you that all the funds that are forth- coming are sorely needed. As a former Oakvillian 1 wish to thank you Jim for your promptness and leadership, and to thank Carl Slipp and Charlie Ambler for the important parts they played--to say nothing of all the canvassers, and the en- tire community of Oakville. Kindest personal regards. Sincerely, Jack Brummell bit Philosophy, Peculiarities Confound Breeding Enthusiast Murphy _ is still shaking ad in bewilderment over scovery last week that lian rabbits are even odder s than he had previously ed. When Mr. Murphy went to the pen last Thursday night to see if the stork had arrived, he was startled to find that Pop Rabbit had somehow vaulted the wire barrier, and killed the doe and four newborn young. Naturally chagrined, he decided not to bury the carcasses until the following morning. When he did return to undertake the task, he found three more young, one of which was still living. And still is! Dr. W. M. The li- brary will be the official owner of the machine, which may be borrowed by local schools and community organizations.
