He succeeds J. T. M. Ashley, Who will go to Toronto to take up duties in the company's central division office. Oakville's new manager has had almost 22 years' experience in the company's commercial de- partment and is a second-genera- tion telephone man whose fath- er, Francls (Frank) Francis, was with the company 44 years. Born in Toronto, Mr. Francis began his telephone career there as a collection clerk in October, 1928. He was a service representative for a time and later became staff assistant in the general commer- cial department. In 1941 he mov- ed to North Bay as senior clerk and -was staff assistant to the district manager there from 1945 until be became manager at Co- bourg in 1948. In addition to his duties at Oakville, Mr. Francis will also supervise the company's business offices in Bronte, Clarkson, Cooksvllle and Milton. Mr. Ashley came to Oakville after 26 years of varied service with the company. After serving in Guelph, London and Windsor, he was manager at Cobourg from 1936 until 1941 when he was granted leave of absence to pro- ceed on active service as a lieu- tenant with the Navy. He served on the Pacific Coast in the com- munications Branch of Naval Headquarters until April, 1946, when he was honorably discharg- ed with the rank of lieutenant commander. He re-entered the company's service at that time as staff assistant in the commercial department 'of the company's Tor- onto office. He vacated that post to assume his duties here.
