Societies were guests for the October meeting at the home of Mrs. Edgar Robert- son, Milton. The: president of the L.A. Mrs. Chas. Watt, took charge of that part of the meeting, and Mrs. Allan Dent, president of the W.M.S. presided for the program. Mrs. W. E. Dent, gave a talk on "The White Angel of Tokyo," which proved to be a very inspir- ational and touching story of the life and work of the late Miss Catherine MacDonald, M.A., Ph.D. a native of Wingham, Ont, who spent. so many years of her life in Japan. When the World Y.W. C.A. opened up work in the far east, she was sent to Japan as secretary, with headquarters in Tokyo. As the result of a crime committed by a non-Christian] member of her Bible classes, she resigned from her position and devoted her life to the reclama- tion of the prisoners of Tokyo, seven thousand in all coming un- der her ministrations. From this missionary spirit and service came the loving title of the Japanese people, "The White Angel of Tokyo." The hostess and her hus- band, the late Dr. Robertson, a native of Milton, were former mis- sionarles the Province of Hunan, China. FE Miss Margaret Watt was the soloist at the Jackson-Beamish wedding at St. Peter's Church, Erindale, on Saturday. Residents of Snider's and base line districts were saddened to "hear of the death in a motor ac- cident on Thanksgiving Day, of Irwin BE. Thomas, a native of] Streetsville, and who at one time taught at Coyne's School, seventh line, Trafalgar. Mr. Thomas was a patient at the Byron Sanatarium near London, and was being tak- en for an outing when the acci- dent occurred. Mr. Thomas, whose home was in Toronto, was un- married. His brother, Mr. Fletcher Thomas represents Elgin con- stituency In the Ontario Legislat- ure. Mr. Floyd Albertson of Sheri- dan district, a brother-in-law, at- tended the funeral.
