Ci [SG |e A hursday, October 26, 1950 Page 11 WHAT PRICE A HAPPY CHILD? ONE of the deep satisfactions of being a par ent is the discovery of how little it takes to make your child happy. In the summertime . . . it's no problem around our Oakville-Trafalgar district. Our youngsters are as happy and healthy as any young Canadians anywhere. But when winter rolls around . . . the picture is different. Winter recreation facilities are woe- fully inadequate in our community. With winters getting milder all the time, they're becoming progressively worse. Who knows how many po- tential Barbara-Anne Scotts and Syl Apps' we have when at best there are only a handful of days with skating ice available? The winter formula for happy, healthy young- sters lies in your big new Memorial Community Centre Arena that is being built right now, even as you read this page. There is every chance that your youngsters will be skating there by Christmas--regardless of what the outside tem- perature reads. Grown-ups, too, will share in the benefilts of this important community project. It will provide us with much-needed facilities for big meetings, concerts, special shows and everything else of interest to a progressive community. Summer recreation facilities will be given a boost as well, for provision is made for filters and pumps for a swimming pool which it is hoped will be the next attraction added. Of course, the Community Centre Arena must be paid for. But the cost is small--measured in terms of Oakville-Trafalgar children's happiness and health. Your contribution and that of all your neighbors is an investment that will pay substantial dividends in the community's future. The two-week campaign for funds starts Mon- day, November 6th. Please be ready to welcome your canvasser when he calls. Arrangements have been made to have the Royal Bank accept pledges for subscriptions, so you may spread your donation over' a period at your conven- ience. "GIVE 'TIL IT FREEZES!" NOTE: See next week's papers for the big news. Keep this date open: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th--TIME: 11 a.m.
