The first, and most im- portant one is the Halton-Went- | worth track meet held in Oak- ville last Monday. This meet, which is an annual affair, takes in the high schools of Burlington, iia Saltfleet, Dundas, Waterdown, and Oa ille. On a ratio basis of points, Dun- das won the meet with 162 points, Burlington was second with 152, and Oakville third with 144. Wa- terdown and Saltfleet followed in that order. The Burlington girls won the day's female events with 89 points, and the Oakville boys walked away with the men's I} events with 107 points. To begin ¥ to cut down to individual perfor- 1] mances from Oakville would be quite a chore, as the whole track team deserves a great deal of ! credit, but here are a few of the outstanding events of the meet: In the senior division, Pete Sutton won the boys senior crown with five firsts. In the same divis- ion, Bob Fitzsimmons came sec- ond in the pole vault. The senlor relay team also won. The Rose twins, Tom and Don, tied for first place as Intermed- fate boys champions with 18 points each. Don won the 440, 880 and ran second to his brother in | the 100 yards. Tom also won the LE | 220 and placed second in the hop, step and jump. Another Oakville boy, Bernie Hodgins, won the i high jump, came third in the 880 | and tled for second place as In- termediate champ. Grant Farrow | copped the intermediate pole vault and Tom German placed second. With the juniors, Bill Smythe Hin was the big gun, winning the high | i Il jump, and placing first or second | in several sprints. Bill tied for | | { third place as junior champ with ii 13 points. 7 74 In the girls events, Joan Hall won the senior high jump and ee placed second In the 75 yard dash. The girls junior relay team won its event. I-just wish we could name all those people who gained points for the school, but due to limited space and a short ribbon on the typewriter, it's almost Im- possible. So the best we can do is Just doff the old chapeau to all those who competed and say congratulations. The next big meot | coming up will be the COSSA meet to be held In a fow weeks, and for those coming meets we advise you to keep your eye on these up and comers like the Rose | twins, Tom and Don, Bll Smythe, Bernie Hodgins, Bob Helllg, and of course that old stand by--Pete Sutton.
