Jackson The new St. Aidan's church to be built in the Forster Survey will be the only church of that name in the Diocese of Niagara. Rev. F. C. Jackson, who chose the name, was governed in his choice 'by the fact that Oakville is a predominantly English com- munity. St. Aidan, a well-known English saint, lived in the sev- enth century. One of the monks of Iona, off - the west coast of Scotland, he was made bishop of Lindisfarne by Oswald, king of Northumbria. At Lindisfarne, off the Northumbrian coast, he built churches and monasteries and founded a school for preachers. St. Aidan, who died in 651, con- tributed greatly to the spread of Christianity in England. St. Cu- thbert, in whose honor the Ang- lican church at Cedar Grove, east of Oakville, is named, was St. Aldan's successor at Lindisfarne. The congregational and Sun- day school picnic will be held on Saturday afternoon, July 7th, at Halton County park, Lowville.
