In a press release issued June 9, the local health- care provider said that while the provincial gov- ernment will be lifting mandatory masking man- dates in select high-risk settings, it is allowing orga- nizations to continue masking along with other safety protocols if they choose to do so. With that in mind, Hal- ton Healthcare officials say they will maintain mask- ing policies and proce- dures for all visitors and Halton Healthcare team members across the orga- nization, including at Mil- ton District Hospital, Georgetown Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memo- rial Hospital. "Masking will continue in our hospitals and com- munity clinics as part of our enhanced infection prevention efforts to pre- vent the spread of CO- VID-19," said Cindy McDo- nell, senior vice president, clinical operations at Hal- ton Healthcare. "This is an added layer of protection for our pa- tients, some of whom are elderly or have compro- mised immune systems, as well as our team mem- bers." McDonell noted every- one entering Halton Health- care facilities will be asked to continue to wear a mask beyond June 11. She said this decision aligns with the practice of many other hospitals in Ontario. Other protections for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and visitors al- so continue, including an- swering standard screen- ing questions and hand sanitizing. Halton Healthcare offi- cials said the organization continues to review all CO- VID-19 safety protocols on a regular basis.
