Graham Paine/Metroland SHOWING HIS SPIRIT The Town of Oakville is asking for the public's feed- back on its new parks plan. Over the next decade, Oakville will be seeing growth within urban cen- tres identified as strategic growth areas, including midtown, the uptown core, Bronte and Palermo. Town staff note the de- velopment of these areas will require parkland to serve the needs of resi- dents. So the town has cre- ated a draft Parks Plan -- 2031 that will provide direc- tion for the acquisition of new parkland throughout the town, particularly in the strategic growth areas and corridors. The plan describes a range of urban parkland types such as urban squares, pocket parks, courtyards and pedestrian connections. Town staff noted as Oak- ville expands with the de- velopment of urban cen- tres, it requires leisure space that has an array of park spaces with both green and hard design components, and includes important connectivity el- ements such as public side- walks and roads. They said park spaces in an urban setting require a unique range of parkland types and sizes that can be integrated as part of a pe- destrian network, and flex- ible enough to accommo- date different users and events at different times of the day.
