This industry report shows clearly how the traditional ways of selling homes have become increasingly less and less effective in today's market. The fact of the matter is that fully three quarters of homesellers don't get what they want for their homes and become disillusioned and - worse - financially disadvantaged when they put their homes on the market. As this report uncovers, most homesellers make 7 deadly mistakes that cost them literally thousands of dollars. The good news is that each and every one of these mistakes is entirely preventable. Incorporating vibrant colours into summer DIY projects is a great way to refresh every- thing from chairs to flower pots. Whether it's something you already own, or a bargain find, a new colour provides an instant trans- formation. Spray paint is an ideal choice for ease of application, durability and adhesion to mul- tiple surfaces including wood, plastic and metal, for both indoor and outdoor projects. It's paint and primer in one, giving it the abil- ity to stick to just about anything, explains Kevin Trotter, manager of sales training with Behr Paint Company. The company recently launched a line of premium spray paint, distinguished by the ergonomic shape of the can that features a slim top for better hand grip. The spray nozzle tip is larger than the standard tip and incorporates a dipped area to comfortably accommodate a fingertip. Trotter notes that the improved tip shape contributes to the "superior spray experience" that even a be- ginner can master. Featuring paint colours from Behr's vast range, there are now 36 available as spray paint. "Everyone wants to do outdoor projects in the summer. Spray paint is really for that accessory project. It's quick and easy," says the paint expert. Trotter attests to the contagious nature of the simple transformations that spray paint puts at your fingertip. Once experienced, the ease of revamping a chair or other object opens the door to spray painting. "There's been a big uptick in spray paint. It used to be seen as a utilitarian product," says Trotter. With the expansion of colour options, spray paint can be a décor inspiration, pro- viding a jumping off point for indoor and outdoor spaces. It can also complement a scheme, bringing attention a particular ob- ject. As Trotter suggests, the range of co- lours allows users to express their personal- ity with colour. Among the choices are metallics and Behr has created some softer tones that reflect today's trends. Soft Iron, Oil-rubbed Bronze, Antique Copper, Vintage Gold and Dark Steel are some of the eight selections that give a metallic finish to everything from plastic to metal. Trotter suggests that updat- ing kitchen cabinet hardware with metallic paint makes it an economical option com- pared with replacing knobs and hinges. Furniture is a popular choice for a refresh, says Trotter, including outdoor metal tables and chairs and wicker pieces. As with all projects, painters can choose from flat, sat- in or gloss finishes. "You can update a piece of furniture to what you want it to be, not what it was," he suggests. Side tables, bookcases, chairs of all sorts, antiques, thrift store and garage sale finds are all items to be viewed in a differ- ent, desirable colour. The transformation process requires a few coats of paint but with a drying time of about 15 minutes, mul- tiple applications can be completed quickly. Trotter recommends that beginners prac- tice their spray technique on a piece of cardboard. Shake the can vigorously for a minute then apply paint in a gentle arching motion, starting and stopping the spray flow with each pass. When finished, turn the can upside down and spray to clear out the noz- zle and wipe it with a cloth. If colour commitment is an issue, spray paint accommodates a quick change. With 36 colours from which to choose, change is just a spray away. A bar cart featuring Behr Premium Champagne Gold metallic spray paint.
