The upcoming Halton Freedom Celebration Fes- tival marks the 188th year of emancipation and is pre- sented by the Halton Black History Awareness Soci- ety. Here's what you need to know about the 2022 event. 1. The festival is being held Saturday, July 30 be- tween noon and 11 p.m. at Spencer Smith Park. 2. Live music perform- ers will include Neema Children's Project from Uganda, Errol "Skipah" Blackwood, Luckystickz, Michael Dunston & Soul Stew, Vanda Li and Baccau and Blackburn Brothers. 3. Along with a steady supply of R&B, soul, funk, reggae, salsa, African dance and jazz fusion, there will also be cultural crafts, food trucks and multicultural vendors, community services, youth activities and workshops. 4. Admission is free. Bring your chairs, umbrel- las and dancing shoes. 5. The festival actually kicks off Friday, July 22 at noon at Burlington city hall with the Emancipa- tion Pan African flag rais- ing ceremony, celebrating the 1834 British Emancipa- tion Act, which freed all co- lonial slaves. 6. Included in the festi- val is the fifth annual Emancipation Art Exhibi- tion to run July 27 to Sept. 6 at Helson Gallery in Georgetown. 7.
