Last November, two movie theatre screens were slashed at the Cineplex Cinemas on Winston Park Drive in Oakville by two males during the showing of a movie. Later the same day, the Cineplex Silver City in Richmond Hill ex- perienced similar damage. In February, two males cut two theatre screens at Film.ca on Speers Road during a movie and then committed the same of- fence at Cine Starz in Bur- lington and the Princess Cinemas in Waterloo. Approximately $100,000 in damage was caused as a result of these incidents, with Film.ca releasing vid- eo of the incident. After executing search warrants at residences in Scarborough and Picker- ing and finding evidence related to the offences, in- vestigators charged a 30- year-old Toronto man with two counts of mischief over $5,000 and a 38-year-old Pickering man with five counts of mischief over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable of- fence. Both were released from custody on an undertaking with a court date. None of the charges have been proven in court. Oakville Fire Deputy Chief Drew Boys said that firefighters were called to the scene at about 4 p.m., and upon arrival found a bystander trying to resus- citate an unconscious woman. Firefighters took over CPR, while paramedics lat- er transported the woman to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
