The Town's transport- ing and engineering de- partment recently an- nounced it was rolling out an improved traffic calm- ing website, which seeks to promote safety and assist residents in submitting re- ports. Traffic calming is the deliberate slowing of traf- fic in residential areas through the use of speed bumps or other obstruc- tions. Town staff said the web- site provides a step-by-step traffic calming process, in- cluding a dedicated email address (trafficcalm- ing@oakville.ca) to start traffic calming requests. The first step involves submitting a petition from the residents on the street in question. Town staff said a mini- mum of 60 per cent of households within the peti- tion boundaries must be in favour of traffic calming in order to proceed to the next stage.
