10 BRYAN'S REVIEW OF OAKVILLE BUILDING ACTIVITIES summary of the building activities in Oakville show the extent of progress being made in this go-ahead community. As recorded the value of bui lding permits attest t h i s : 1920 $112,775; 1921-- $584,075; 1922 $501,000. Up-to-date, Aug. 1923 $260,900. During 1922 upwards of 82 res idences were erected. During this present year building operat ions are of an unprecedented character as is evidenced on every side. For instance, at the present time an addit ion to the High School is being constructed at a cost of some $45,000. A new addition to the Methodist Church, to be called Lusk Hall, at a cost of $35,000 or upwards, a parish hall is contemplated for St. Jude's Church of England costing not less than $20,000, a new office bui ld ing for W. S. Davis, costing $35,000, a new moving pic ture theatre , $15,000, and a very large and substantial factory building for the Oakville Basket Company, cost ing $40,000; bes ides numerous smaller store buildings and upwards of 42 residences under construction. Mention should also be made of the new high level bridge on the highway, which will cost in the neigborhood of $100,000- a public improvement which will be greatly appreciated. Then too, the harbor dock will undergo considerable repairs by the Government at a probable outlay of some $15,000. Beyond the above work under construct ion there are several big buildings contemplated and a few smaller ones, intended to replace some of the old and out of date business premises on Colborne St. , the present owners of which feel that Oakville is of suff icient importance to have finer and better buildings in keeping w ith its pro gressive spirit and enterprise and the steady growth of population.
