Job Opportunities: Summer 2021 positions This month, I'd like to in- troduce you to two very hard-working volunteers at the centre -- Dave and Joan Maloney. They moved to Acton from Georgetown in 2005 and joined the centre in 2009. Dave was vice-presi- dent for three years, from 2011 to 2013, then president from 2014 to 2017 -- during which time renovations were made to enlarge Hills- view. As a young man, Dave was in the British Royal Na- vy for 12 years. It was dur- ing this time that he met and married Joan. They spent part of their married life living in Gibraltar while Dave was stationed there and still enjoy being "at sea" while cruising. He and Joan are also in- volved in fundraising and enjoy organizing and help- ing with the Hillsview float for the Santa Claus parade. They enjoy the social side of the centre, the evening social dinners and dancing and the line dancing on Thursday afternoons. They can't wait for things to get back to nor- mal. In 2015, when Real and Jill Tetreault moved to Oakville, Dave and Joan started volunteering with the Friday lunches. Joan al- ways helps with the Christ- mas lunches and the fund- raising bazaars and teas. They are also both very involved with the Acton Le- gion Branch 197. Dave is the public relations chair and Joan is sports officer for the ladies auxiliary. She helps with weddings, funerals and celebrations of life lunches. In their spare time, they are very involved with their grandchildren. We would also like to thank Wendy, Michelle and Matas Eimantas for their work on the drive-thru lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, regardless of the weather. Call the centre if you would like more in- formation on this program. Your committees and board continue to have meetings virtually. We are planning events so we will be ready when we are able to open again safely. Stay in touch with friends and family, stay safe and we will see each other soon.
