They are regularly read out at public events, in schools and dur- ing government proceedings, in- cluding before Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) meetings. The short statements that recognize the land and Indig- enous people who lived on the land prior to the arrival of Euro- pean settlers are considered by some to merely be a part of the bureaucratic house cleaning. A group of young people, in- cluding some in Oakville, wants to change that.
