PAGE 6 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 1, ISSUE | LOOKING BACK the Acton Sree Press. Reported in the Acton Free Press from 125 years ago, November 18th, 1897: There has been considerable agitation lately on the part of owners of property adjourn- ing the stream upon which the tanneries here are situat- ed, with a view to the abate- ment of the pollution of the stream which they allege is taking place. The matter came before the Township Board of Health and through the body to the Provincial Board. At the quarterly meeting of the Provincial Board last Friday, Dr. Bryce, the secretary, in his report said, "The Township of Esquesing having tried to prevent the pollution of the Acton creek by the Acton tan- neries, the tannery compa- nies have consented to follow the direction of the Provin- cial Board of Health in doing away with the nuisance." This action when carried out as intended will no doubt sat- isfy all parties interested. Reported in the Acton Free Press from 100 years ago, November 16th, 1922: Acton citizens fittingly cele- brated the fifth armistice day at the soldiers' memorial and in St. Alban's Church. At the church, many were turned away for lack of room. See more of Acton’s history with...
