As reported earlier the league had requested the use of upstairs for the league and the request had been turned down by the Legion executive. Hustlers opened with a match against Westenders with only three players and lost 4-5. Dennis Thorogood opened five and closed one whilst scoring 121 twice. High Rollers took out Acadian Pools (who also had a three player turn out for the night) by 6-3. Rob Campbell scored 100. Terry Hancock scored three tons playing for Steeprock and the team went down 3-6 to Gasketmen. Rick Harden returned four opens and 140 in this match. Newly promoted Inter County and Panthers were in opposition and County won 6-3. Paul Kavanaugh and Al Gardiner scored highs and Alex O’Neil popped 120. In the second division, Hot shots defeated Bandits 6-3, Bandits just failing to match last season’s open- ing night win. Mike Hope scoring 133 as did team member Ted X. Mike Cherry scored 112 for Bandits. Fireman won 6-3 over Independents, using the “dummy” player. Ron Vallance scored 129 and opened three. Jim Franks went 4-2 on the night. Ace Bailey scored 105. Taxmen won games 2 & 3 and lost the remainder to Ensigns. Al Murphy went 4-2 and Harry Bottoms 2-3 with Roy Rudiger popping 121. The old hands are still at it with accuracy, I see. Aces had a terrible return to the second divi- sion with a 0-9 rout to Stan’s team, unnamed yet(?). Stan “The man” Rhynold is the season’s.early leader in high starts with 160, which will ake some beating, I'll wager. Go to it lads! Rhynold also went 6-3 for a one-man wrecking crew and this team will be hard to beat when all are present. Aces are also another squad short of a player or two. Monday sees the opener of the Halton Pub League with 14 teams in one division. Team captains voted 9-5 in favor of leaving one division status and a return to the old scoring format for bonus points. This will make the accounting easi- er and stats man Mike Pepper is relieved of a great deal of extra recording. Player must be regis- tered and fees paid before playing. Next Monday, home teams are: George #2 and #4, Legion #1 and #3, Time Out #2, Copper Kettle #2 and McGibbon. Legion #2 are away at the Legion #6. George & Dragon and Legion have four teams each, Copper Kettle and Time Out each have two squads and O’Tooles and McGibbon each have one team.
