Nancy Wilkes, owner of Acton Optical, and Angela Tyler of First Student, decided to resurrect Red Smith Foundation’s North Halton Hospice. “I never had the privilege of meeting Jack but I knew Angela had a tie to Jack as well, so we got talking and we thought it would be wonderful to bring some happiness to a dreary February,” said Wilkes. Carpenter started the Red Nose campaign on Feb 6th 1992 as a way for people to “lighten up” during the dark days of winter, which was his birthday.
