PAGE 6 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 1, ISSUE 7 Town Council News With Ann Lawlor, Mayor of Halton Hills It’s a pleasure to be invited by publisher Scott Brooks to share Town Council news in this great publication. Lots is happening and we want you to have all the news you can use. New Fireworks Bylaw May is here and summer events are around the corner. For some, fireworks on Victoria Day and Canada Day are fun ways to celebrate the holidays. Councillors, in Committee, recently reviewed the Fireworks Bylaw and some changes are recommended: -Family Fireworks may only be dis- charged by someone over the age of -no fireworks after 11pm; “no permit is required for fireworks on Victoria Day, Canada Day, New Year's, Lunar New Year and Diwali; and -excepting Exhibition Fireworks Final decision on the revised Fireworks Bylaw will occur at the May 8, 2023 Council meeting. Slowing Traffic In certain areas of our community such as school routes, traffic needs to slow down so that cyclists and pedestrians will be safe. After testing the effectiveness of speed reductions in certain areas last year, Council is reducing the speed from 50 km per hour to 40 km per hour on sections of the following streets: Mill Street East, Arthur Street, Peel Street, Wellington Street and George Street. Watch for new maximum speed signs to be installed early this summer and be ready to lighten up on the gas. More Trees, Please Trees along our streets and in our yards cool the hot summer air, filter dust, add oxygen, provide habitat for birds and bugs, sequester carbon and look beautiful! Our Town’s environment is enhanced when more trees are added and Council is encouraging residents to plant on their own roperties. So, this year, $20 Tree Vouchers are available to the first 500 Halton Hills residents from the Acton Community Centre, Mold-Masters or Gellert Centres. The vouchers, for a tree valued at greater than $50, can be redeemed at Red’s Garden in Acton or Sheridan Nurseries in Georgetown. These businesses will add a further $10 discount for a total $30 tr purchase saving. Grab a shovel and let’s help green our Town! with a permit, fireworks are not Mayor Ann Lawlor can be allowed on public properties such contacted via email: as roads and parks. mayor@haltonhills.ca LAW OFFICE FRRONALD K.
