Raiders general manager Finn @ in place as early as this weekend. Hanman and assistant coach Bert Osborne stepped down Sunday afternoon after Georgetown had suffered its 19th straight defeat. “We're getting a real good sense of what we want to accomplish,”” Poulstrup said. “I think the candi- dates we’re looking at are all good ones and the one we select will be able to do the job.”” Candidates in line for the Raider bench boss job include assistant Jay Anderson, a former Raider player and assistant coach (who is the club’s interim coach until a new one is found), former team coach Peter Surgeon and long-time Raiders player Gary Ford. Former NHL’er Jerome Dupont, now an assistant with the Metro League’s Aurora Eagles, was also in the running, but he backed out earlier this week. “Jerome wants to go to the NHL as a coach and I have no problem with that,’”? Poulstrup said. “It’s my understanding that he felt the odds for failure here were too high.”” Poulstrup also maintained that the successful candidate will either assume both duties of coach and general manager, or at least be Atom AA have tough loss in exciting game On Saturday, November 14, 1992, Hamilton hosted the John Henderson Pro Shop AA Atom Hockey Club for the first meeting of the year. These two teams have played exciting hockey during the past two seasons, and this game ‘was to be no exception. Matt Hotham put Georgetown ahead 1-0 at 3:02 of the first with a short-handed marker assisted by Jason Campbell. Despite good saves by Tyler Pearce on close-in shots, Hamilton finally managed to tie the score at 1-1 later in the period. By Mara Fantegrossi The Raiders are on a roll! With seventeen games behind them, the Beaver Lumber Major Novices are as yet undefeated. Last Sunday, the Raiders trav- elled to Oakville and ravaged the hometown Rangers 6-3. One minute into the game, Ronny Larocque established an unrelent- ing lead for Georgetown, as he scored on Kyle Hotham’s rebound from Brandon Valente. In the sec- ond period, the Raiders added three more goals before-the Rangers responded with two. Kevin Binsell, who was set up by Corey Forbes and Chris Henderson, skated hard up the wing and flipped the puck home. Valente then combined with able to bring a general manager aboard after the season is com- plete. Currently Poulstrup has worn both hats of the Raiders gen- eral manager and team president. “If we can get someone who would dedicate himself to the job and can afford the time needed to do the job, I think that would be better for the organization,”’ Poulstrup said. Poulstrup wouldn’t officially say who the frontrunners for the job are, but hinted the former Raiders have definite appeal. “They were here and played here and are part of the community even though they live out of town,”’ Poulstrup said. “They are perceived that way by the people and have that perception them- lves.”” Should the Raiders not be able to put a new coach in place before this weekend, Poulstrup has no reservations with putting Anderson behind the bench. “We're really pleased with Jay,”” Poulstrup said. “I’m really glad he wanted to stay. “J think it shows a lot of charac- ter on his part.’” Even with the Raiders’ woes, the team is still in the hunt for a Central League East Division play- off spot. Currently Georgetown and Royal York are tied for sixth place in the seven-team division standings. And despite having a 4- 18 record (one win was a reversal replacement for Charlie Hanman ew coach of a loss to Caledon after the Canadiens used an illegal player), Poulstrup doesn’t feel Georgetown has a bad club. “I think our problem was chem- istry between the players and the coach,”” Poulstrup said. “Hopefully a new person coming in will be able to turn things around.” However Poulstrup said his club is in a dicey situation in its search for anew coach. “We have to make certain we really look over the field, but also be decisive in our decision,”’ he said. “I don’t think the hockey club can take a lot of time in addressing this issue.”” ‘Wellwood Containers/Judy’s Bar and Grill was the A Division champions at last week’s Acton Olde Crows oldtimers hockey tournament. Right off the face-off, only seven seconds later, Graham McCulloch took a pass from Brad Snow and shot it in. The same two combined again off the opening face-off of the third period, as McCulloch cap- italized on Snow’s pass and zeroed in on the top comer for his second goal of the game. Mark Fantegrossi notched Georgetown’s last goal as he caught the corner on a deflection from Snow and McCulloch, to tally a 6-3 final. On Tuesday night, the visiting Raiders met up with inhospitable treatment from Burlington, who collected five penalties. Georgetown, however, responded by playing a solid game and dump- ing a 4-1 loss on their scrappy josts. Late in the first, Burlington scored, however, Fantegrossi quickly tied it up 36 seconds into ‘the second period as he deflected the puck into the 5-hole from Marty Lefebvre’s point shot. In the third period, Forbes notched the game winner from Snow and Ryan Busby. Fantegrossi then scored his second of the game on a high breakaway shot, assisted by McCulloch. Two minutes later, McColloch ‘collected an unassisted goal on a wraparound. Defensemen Ryan Field, Tim Mansfield, Alex Durham, Lefebvre Photo, Jim Cooney and Busby guarded their end admirably, as did goalie Ryan LaRose, who made 16 saves, including a stunning high glove save.
