Shell Park will host the house league - playdowns beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and continuing through until 4 p.m. Sunday. No Joy for Gilroy For the second year in a row Oakville Longhorn coach Bruce Gilroy has taken second place in the Northern Football Conference Coach of the Year awards. Tina ran the 10 kilometres in 53:14.6 minutes to earn top spot. A Fun Run first Tina Bremner had plen- ty left after the Erin Mills Fun Run recently. Enough in fact to run up to the judge’s stand to accept her first-place trophy. The nine-year-old Oakville resident finished the 10 kilometre race ahead of everyone else in the 13 years and under category, defeating runners as much as four years her senior. Tina's time for the run was 53:14.6 minutes. Witnesses at the races Said she ran as fast as her legs would take her. She had not decided to take part in the run until moments before the starting gun sounded. Tickets for the Cana-- dian Open can be obtain- ed by calling Vicki Nock at 845-4774. ‘Bogteimbet 19, 1980°—'9 Coach course at Sheridan Sheridan College plans to broaden its athletic repertoire by participating in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).® The course, to begin in the fall of this year, has been broken down into two parts. Level I is a 14hour course designed to cover the basics of being a coach. Level I is a 21-hour course encompassing a more inten- sive examination of the topics covered in Level I. All sport-governing bodies in the province have accepted the concept of the program. Coaching ‘certification for nearly all sports in Ontario now in- cludes a successful completion of the NCCP’s theory courses. Level I and II begin Oct. 19 at 9 00 a.m. at Sheridan College in Oakville. Level I runs from 9:00 a.m: to 1:00 p.m. for four consecutive Sundays. Level II continues for five weeks. Moms to meet The Oakville Hockey Moms will be holding their first general meeting of the 1980-81 season on Wednesday. All mothers of minor hockey players are urged to at- tend the meeting scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Oakville Ice Centre. The organization will be gearing towards an annual dance and the annual skate ex- change. Oakville’s Hockey Moms are attempting to raise $5,- 000 this year to put towards the cost of ice time and trophies for the house league teams. Despite the fact the organization has been running for close to 20 years now it has attracted-enly about 10 to 20 mothers of the 2,000 boys that register for hockey each year. = Irish squash at The Club The Club swill be specializing in Irish squash tonight. \ Beginning at 6: 40” p.m. members of The Club patel th team will be hosting six travelling members of the Irish squash team, including David Gatto, the country’s top-ranked player. Gatto, who will likely be meeting The Club’s professional player, Barry Bins is ranked among the top 10 in the world, said Bins. The Club boasts a strong squash team of players from the town and the surrounding area including Todd Bins, currently ranked number two in the country, Rich Armstrong, Neil McIskie, Fred Reid and Mike Johnston. The Saltfleet team is scheduled to play Oakville’s Granada TV in the Cup final at 4 p.m. in St. Catharines, but they couldn’t hold up against the attack of Naylor. Saltfleet opened the scoring in the early minutes of play, but ‘Naylor fought k to claim two unafiewered markers. Jim Lio tied the game for the local club after taking a pass from Steve Milic. The second goal saw the combination reversed, as Milic scored on a shot set up by Lio. Bantam Girls International Stem- ware’s bantam girls claimed top spot in the Peel-Halton League recently with a 9-0 defeat of Saltfleet in their last league game of the year.
