4 — The Oskville Journal Record, Friday, September’ 19, {980 - Bringing Community News to You Terry Fox -Asymbol of courage Qn July 16, the Oakville Jour- nal Réecord—published this photograph of Terry Fox*running on a rain-soaked Oakville street at 9:30 a.m. the previous day. The pic- ture, taken by OJR Senior Photographer Peter Martin sym- bolized everything about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope to thousands of people: his courage, the loneliness of his Odyssey, the determination of a man against elements, himself and the odds. ’ Since its publication in the OJR, the photo has been reprinted in newspapers across North America including The Star, the Toronto Sun and twice in the Globe and Mail. The New York Times and others have used it. United Press Canada ran it nation-wide two days after it was published in the OJR and since that time has requested additional prints to run on the wire —, service again. Two national ¢ Magazines have requested permis- ’ sion to publish the photograph, one of them for its cover. Rarely is a photograph recognized by so many professional journalists as being so outstanding. A photograph such as this is a work of art.
