Things started out slow for Redmen pitcher Kelly Ambrose early in the game. She walked the lead-off batter, which resulted in a tun later in the first inning. Sharon Kearsey prevented Elgin from getting at least one base hit early in the second inning by catch- ing a line-drive that was headed for left field. “She (Kearsey) is a natur- al ball player,” says Wright. Kearsey also scored the Redmen’s first run from third base when Beth Henderson attempted to steal second and Elgin’s catcher threw the ball over the second baseman’s head. The Redmen’s offense started to explode in the third. Down 4-1 going into the inning, Acton scored seven runs to overtake Elgin with a four run lead. Despite having two bad innings, Ambrose still managed to strike out seven batters and gave up only three walks during the entire game. Elgin tried to catch up to the Redmen in the last two innings by scoring a run in the sixth and then scoring another one in the seventh. The two runs by Elgin didn’t seem to bother Acton, though, as they hung on to win their third game of the season. Samantha Gudgeon got the save. Mandy Bosch, Ruth Tabata, Lindsey Holmes and Dianna Lowth all scored runs in the Redmen’s comeback victory. M. Robinson to finish the year with a spotless 7-0 record. With the win, the Rebels cap- tured first place overall in their division and in the process, earned a bye in the first playoff round The Rebs will have home field advan- tage all the way to the semi-finals. This game was nearly given away by the Rebels who had a 5-2 lead heading into the final inning but saw M. M. Robinson charge back to score four runs, thanks to some Rebel errors. In the end, however, the Rebel girls wouldn’t quit and mounted their own come back when Stacey Colarossi drove in the winning run. Coach Bill Coon said this game was the toughest of the year. “M. M. was the best team we faced all year and could be a contender in the playoffs.” The girls now enjoy a week off while the first round games start. Coon doesn’t think the time off will hurt the Rebels though. “ We'll continue to practice during the week and will be ready when the playoffs start for us.” Shannon Morris and Stacey Colarossi were the offensive play- ers of the game and Amy Cooper and Sherri Peacock took defensive honors.
