with Bill Ellis THE TRUST The Downtown Brain Trust was called into a full session to digest recent events in a "Canada only" The members immediately began discussions on Garth's involvement with the new Federal Cabinet. Trust members quickly came up with a list of portfolios which might be avail- able to our own Garth. Mentioned were Infernal Affairs, Wealth and Hellfire, International Offence, Forest and Stream, Refinance, Mise inti or Constipation and Unilin; The Downtown Brain Trust the member- ship that the Jones awaited Senate appointment been offered to one ofthe members. Unfortunately, the member was forced to turn down appointment. His reasons for refusal were many with the primary one being that his wife would not let him he would miss that-all important Sunday "see and be seen" visit to the Georgetown Fruit Market. One of the members drew atten- tion to the political cartoon in the Sun, which showed Jean Chretien watching the Tory convention on T.V. and chanting "Garth! Garth! Garth! Garth!” Garth's old friends at nh Sun can be funny -- but they are n! ‘Then ensued a general aD ea as to why Jean Charest did not win the Tory leadership Ccanio: One Trust member allowed as to how Charest's French accent was not thick enough. He appeared to be too English, with a name like Charest. It cast some doubts. As a matter of fact, Mr. Charest had a definite "too" problem. He was too young too handsome, his wife was too cute, he Out at the Ranch al was th and too obvious to win. Definitely not a Canadian Prime Minister's image. And he had never admitted if he inhaled the smoke when he was smoking that Mexican laughing grass. People wonder about things e that. Followed a lengthy discussion per- Older Red Tories must have just about dropped their teeth when got their first image of the Tory con- vention floor. Surely this sea of pink was not the "Big Blue Machine” in a new uniform! Then followed many questions from Trust members. What if our 5.8 billion dollars of new helicopters suddenly go to 6.5 billion dollars because the paint’specs are revist pink What if Canada insists that it's U.N. peace keeping forces must be decked out with pink berets rather than the U.N. blue? This could cause a major problem in recruiting rough and ready fighting men. You could not even imagine what the famous Canadian Forces Van Doos could be called, wearing pink berets! They could spend most of their time fight- ing allies with hats like that! Will the P.M.O. suddenly have pink drapes? Can stately, old 24 Sussex Drive handle the transition to pink whatevers? Can you imagine what the Canadian Forces V.LP. air- craft will look like in a month? What about the cottage in the Gatineau Hills? A pink verandah? As reported to me, the meeting was adjourned with the Trust mem- bers wondering where this would all nd. Bill Ellis is.an Associate Broker with Canada Trust Realty, Georgetown.
