THE OAKVILLE RECORD-STAR Thursday, April 6th, 1950 PALERMO Mrs. Henry Proud—Bronte 46-R-15 The Palermo Women's Institute * met on Thursday afternoon, March 30, at the home of Mrs. W. Hig- nett. The roll call was answered | by “Suggestions for Community Improvement.” Mrs. A. Cowan read an account of the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. Marshall, of Ash, which recalled many interesting facts of this dis- trict long ago. Mrs. A. Broughton gave an account of a meeting at Nelson on March 14 which she and Mrs. R. Lawrence attended. The subject of that meeting being “Health Before and After Forty.” It was anounced’ that the Traf- algar Music Festival is to be held on April 5 in the Trafalgar Mem- orial Hall. Books on, the W. I. Co- operative program were distribut- ed for study before the next meeét- ing. The annual donation of $10 , was voted for the Crippled Child- ao Fund. The list for the W. I. exhibit for the Milton Fair was tread. “Public Relationship and ‘Community Activities’ -wes—-the topic for the meeting. Mrs. G. Booth, convener of this commit: tee, introduced the speaker, Mr. G. Thompson, of the Children’s Aid Society. Mr. Thompson gave a. fine address on his work in Halton, stressing the need for emergency receiving homes, a5 well as per- manent ones; clothing, and above all, interest in welfare work. A discussion followed the address. Mr. Thompson announced that the Society's annual meeting will be held on May 9 at St. Paul’s United Church, Milton. Mrs. G, Millard gave an interesting review of cur- rent events. Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. C. Fuller and Mrs. I Cowan. Stevenson, of Brighton, in town over the week-end. At the recent Seed Fair held in Milton on March 18, Mr. Harold Lawrence, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. A social everling was held ip Palermo Hall on Thursday evening of last week by the Halton Game and Fish Protective Association. Mr, H. Burkholder was chairman for the first part of the evening. Mr. Hudson, of the Department of Lands and Forests, showed mov- ing pictures of forest preserva- tion, bird life and a comedy film on young wild* life. Then euchre was enjoyed, under the direction of E, Henderson. Winners were Ladies lst, Mrs. Russell Fox; 2nd, Mrs. George Breckon; Men's ist, J. Van Sickle; 2nd, F. Edwards. Euchre draw, A..Dickenson..Then doughnuts, cake and coffee were served and another enjoyable ev- ening came to a close. Last Saturday ¢vening, Miss Lor- na Lawrence entertained about 25 girls at a miscellaneous shower and buffet supper in honour of Miss Evelyn Pelletterio, whose marriage to Mr. Bramwell “Hap- py” Oates takes place in St. Luke's on April 15.
