Page’12 — Halton Hills This Week, Wednesday, July 28, 1993 Summer holidays take toll By Harry Norton Summer holidays are taking their toll on the card players. There was not enough in the “kitty” to split with the bridge players on July 21. On July 22 there were only 15 tables for euchre, but they still got cash prizes. Ist - Zuke Zions; 2nd - J. Matheus and Rita Kelly; 3rd - Lillian Bonfield and 4th - Jim Cook. The hidden winner was Maymie Dick. On July 23 eight new mem- bers were initiated. Three of them were grandchildren of veterans. Very gratifying to see. the interest in the Legion carried on to the third genera- tion. Following the initiation a light lunch was served and some socializing done. The new members are David Crook, Cheryl Daponte, Nettie Field, Kevin Lumbers, Lynda Meilleur, Elizabeth and Lee- Ann Mundy and Shaun Warwick. It is hoped the five new members whose applica- tion had been approved can arrange their work schedules and be initiated at our next ceremony. Legion was quite busy last Saturday, what with the regular Beef Draw and a Bar- B-Que for the annual Acton Open Tournament. I don’t know who won at the golf, but it must have been a good party, as everyone got a prize. PAX) Col Xe | Beef Draw Winners Early Bird: Ted Nelson, Murray McNabb Regulars: Ed Peckham, Hugh O’Drouke, Wayne Amirault, Gord McCutcheon, Bob Doyle, Helen McCormack, John Toebes, Lamonthe, Coline Large Prize Winner: John Toebes, Jr. COMING EVENTS Wednesday = Thursday - Euchre; Saturday - Beef Draw; Aug. 21 - Corn Roast; Sept. 11 - Legion Open. Tickets are still available. Keith Andrews celebrated 25 years of marriage by paint- ing YOUR LEGION GAMES OOM. I’m not sure if one of the six volunteers was his wife, Barbara. Gary Mundy was there, painting like mad and trying to keep peace in the family. Gary and Keith have now Started on trying to spruce up the auditorium which is a far bigger job. The auditorium is one of our best money mak- ers and allows the branch to’ provide YOU the members with the service they do so reasonably. Don’t forget, we are a volunteer organization and cannot survive without YOUR help.
