CW93-109 himself up for home and a local business. recent months you may well have seen his van around town, “A Touch of Color” on its sides, advertis- ing his decorating business. Having seen some of his artistry, it looks as though he will do quite nicely and deserves to do so. However, he has been back into soccer, as I stated. For the past two years or so, Gary has played mainly indoor. In August, he joined Canada 3000, a team formed specially with a few of his former colleagues and oppo- nents of the Steelers and Blizzard. The team took part in the Coca-Cola Harlem tourney in Holland in early August. The tourney ranges from under 8-10 at 7-a-side to the full game at open age groups. The professional ranking has, in the past, been won by Ajax, PSV Eindhoven (with former England World Cup manager, Bobby Robson, in charge) and Nottingham Forrest (with Redoubtable Brian Clough in charge). Around 400 teams take part in this large under- taking played in Harlem. Canada 3000 pulled off a victory and return as 1993 champion, which made the trip well worthwhile. There were 12 teams in each group and the only Canadian entry won through to the semi- finals on goal difference before taking the final victo- ry. As a result of the win, FC Vollendam reneged on an exhibition game to round off the trip. Vollendam are slightly famous as the club Canadian International, Randy Samuels, played for when first going to Europe. Samuels now plays for Fortuna Sittard, the town of Haddy Smedema, as I recall. But I digress a little. Teams from several coun- tries took part in this long- standing tourney. Spain, England, Scotland, Sweden, Venezuela, Italy and Austria are just a few. I do not believe I even saw a team from China one year in the draw for a prior year. Gary is considering 4 return to regular play, having received an offer from St. Catharine’s Club Roma, where he knows a few of the players and organizers. At the tender age of 28, he is far too young to be on the shelf, ELECTRONIC SERVICE AT A PRICE THAT ours GEORGETOWN CUSTOM CAR SOUND TUES. - FRI 877-2425 SSSINCLAIR AVENUE ~ SERVING HALTON GEORGETOWN HILLS & AREA. Gary Morrow and mates win Harlem Cup We wish him well, as usual, in his endeavors as a player and businessman. He must be all right, his golf score is already down in the 80's! Meteor defeated Merseyside, weakened by the loss of half their playing squad by other commit- ments, by a convincing 4-0 score to seal the Inter County First Division league title. No: controversy surrounding the achievement this season. Meteor played well and were undefeated on the field of play during the league run. Merseyside and Meadowvale still have a game to play which will decide which of these two finish in the run- ner-up spot. Meadowvale beat out the challenge of the young Blazers by 5-2. This result, coupled with a Mariner 1-0 win at Winchester, leaves Mariners fourth and Blazers fifth, with Winchester in last ace. The only game in the sec- ond division was that between Falcons and Caledon. Caledon, needing a tie or win to win the second divi- sion, started with a great deal of confidence. It seemed ‘only. a matter of time before they took the game. However, the*fighting quali- ties of Falcons camethrough and ‘a 1-0 result in favonof the home team hailed the final whistle. Falcons’ win means that Eagles win the title. Aue same time, Falcons hani two defeats to Caliente team’s only-tosses in the sea- son. Falcons finish in third place with United, Stingers, Milton and Ajax following in der. The league meeting was not without moments of anx- iousness on the part of sever- al teams. Meteor lost a win for playing an ineligible player, Merseyside lost two wins and gained a win for the same reason. Blazers and Meadowvale were also the receivers of wins at the office. Three players were given suspensions and all this before the meeting got down to normal business. The Knock Out Cup draw for the semi-finals came out Milton, Mariners are due to visit Meadowvale, field per- mitting. United has a home game with Ajax, no venue as yet and Eagles received a bye for the week. aArRE 354 Guelph St. Unit 27 Georgetown, Ont. (416) 873-1655
